If you are worried about a family member or friend you think might be experiencing domestic abuse there are some actions you can take.

  • Call Angus Women’s Aid for some confidential information and guidance.
  • Try to maintain contact with the person you are worried about.
  • Talk to her and be prepared to ask directly – you may need to do this several times before she will open up.
  • Keep safety as a priority – do not challenge the abuser this may result in putting your friend or family member at further risk.
  • Always call the Police in an emergency.
  • Be patient, recognising that a relationship is abusive can take time and even longer to make safe decisions about her future.
  • If safe to do so give information about help available.
